BSRunner troubleshooting

Most problems come from Windows or your antivirus being careful with a new program — not from a fault in BSRunner. Find your problem below and follow the steps in order.

BSRunner is a signed program

BSRunner and its installer are digitally signed with a Certum code-signing certificate issued to Aidhu Fintech LLP. Wherever Windows or your browser shows a publisher name, it will read Aidhu Fintech LLP. A warning for a signed program only means it is new, not that it is unsafe.

1Edge SmartScreen or Chrome download warning▾

When you download or run the installer, your browser or Windows may warn that the file is not commonly downloaded, or show a blue "Windows protected your PC" box. This is normal for a new signed program. Follow the steps for your browser.

Microsoft Edge — download warning

  1. When the warning appears on the downloaded file, move your mouse over it and click the ⋯ (three dots).
  2. Click Keep.
  3. If Edge asks again, click Show more, then Keep anyway.

Google Chrome — download warning

  1. Find the download at the top-right of Chrome (or in the downloads bar).
  2. Click the ⋮ or the arrow next to the file name.
  3. Click Keep (or Keep anyway).

Windows SmartScreen — "Windows protected your PC"

  1. Click More info.
  2. Check that the Publisher line reads Aidhu Fintech LLP.
  3. Click Run anyway.

To confirm the file is genuine (optional)

  1. Right-click the installer file and choose Properties.
  2. Open the Digital Signatures tab.
  3. You should see a signature from Aidhu Fintech LLP. If there is no signature at all, delete the file and download it again from the BSRunner download page.

Only download from auditwave.in/bsrunner. Do not use copies from other websites.

2Antivirus blocking the install▾

Some antivirus programs (for example K7, Quick Heal / Seqrite, Kaspersky) may stop the installer or delete part of it during setup. Because BSRunner is signed, this is a false alarm. Use Option A if you can; Option B is a fallback.

Option A — allow the installer (recommended)

  1. Open your antivirus and go to its Exclusions (also called Trusted files or Allow list).
  2. Add the downloaded installer file.
  3. Add both folders: the installer folder C:\Program Files\BSRunnerSetup and the install folder C:\Bsrunner.
  4. Run the installer again.

Option B — pause protection during install

  1. Right-click the antivirus icon near the clock and pause or disable protection for a few minutes.
  2. Run and finish the BSRunner installation.
  3. Turn protection back on.
  4. Add C:\Program Files\BSRunnerSetup and C:\Bsrunner to the antivirus exclusions (Option A) so they are not blocked later while running — see section 4.

If a file was already deleted or quarantined

  1. Open your antivirus and go to Quarantine (or History).
  2. Find the BSRunner, Apache (httpd.exe) or PHP (php.exe) file, and choose Restore and Allow.
  3. Run the installer again.
3Tally won't connect▾

BSRunner reads data from Tally through Tally's built-in connection. Do the basic checks in Step 1 first. Only if it still fails, use the test file in Step 2 and match your result in Step 3. The same help is also on the Import screen — click ❓ Help next to "Tally connection".

Step 1 — Basic checks (do these first)

  1. Keep only one Tally open. Close every Tally window on the Tally machine, then open just one Tally application. Several open Tally windows is a common cause of connection problems.
  2. Open the company you want to import in Tally.
  3. Turn on Tally's connection. In Tally press F1 (Help) → Settings → Connectivity → Client/Server configuration. Set Tally acts as: Server and Port: 9000, then accept.
  4. Check Tally answers on its own machine. On the Tally machine, open a browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:9000. It should show a short "Tally Server is Running" message.
  5. If Tally is on a different machine from BSRunner, check the server can reach it.
    • On the Tally machine, open cmd, type ipconfig, and note the IPv4 Address (for example 192.168.1.25).
    • On the BSRunner server machine, open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.25:9000 (use the real number).
    • If it shows "Tally Server is Running", the server can reach Tally. If it does not, it is a network or firewall issue — see section 5.
  6. In BSRunner, on the Import screen enter the correct Host and Port, then click Refresh. The open companies should appear.
  7. Several users on one Tally machine → use different ports. If more than one Tally instance runs on the same machine for different users, give each one its own port — 9000, 9001, 9002, and so on. Set the port in Tally (same Connectivity screen) and enter the matching port in BSRunner. Never let two Tally instances share one port.

If the companies list appears, pick the company and import. You are done — you do not need the test file.

Step 2 — If it still won't connect, run the test file

This small file runs the same request BSRunner uses and tells you exactly where the problem is. It needs no login.

  1. ⬇ Download bsr-connection-test.php
  2. Copy the file into your BSRunner program folder — the folder that contains tally.php, inside C:\Bsrunner.
  3. Open this address in your browser on the BSRunner server machine: http://localhost/bsrunner/bsr-connection-test.php
  4. Enter the correct Host:
    • Tally is on the same machine as BSRunner → use 127.0.0.1.
    • Tally is on a different machine → use that machine's LAN address, for example 192.168.1.25 (find it with ipconfig on the Tally machine).
  5. Enter the Port (usually 9000) and click Test connection.
  6. Read the result, then find it in the table below.

Delete the test file when finished. Remove bsr-connection-test.php from the folder once the problem is solved.

Step 3 — Match the test result to the fix

What the test showsWhat it meansWhat to do
Green — connected, companies listedThe connection is working. If import still fails, the company or the period is wrong. Open the correct company in Tally and set the period to match the client's dates.
Connected, but 0 companiesNo company is open in Tally.Open the company in Tally, then click Refresh / test again.
Error 10061 — connection refusedNothing is listening on the port. Tally is closed, not in Server mode, or the port is wrong.Go back to Step 1 and set Tally to Server mode on port 9000.
Error 10013 — access forbidden (fails instantly)Your antivirus is blocking BSRunner's web-server program. It runs as a Windows service, so the antivirus blocks it even though your browser works.Allow C:\Bsrunner\apache\bin\httpd.exe in the antivirus firewall — see section 4.
Works in a browser but not in BSRunnerThe address localhost is being read as IPv6 (::1); Tally only listens on IPv4.Set the Tally host in BSRunner to 127.0.0.1 (not localhost).
Timeout / no response over the networkA firewall or the network is blocking the path to the Tally machine.See section 5.

Which address to use: 127.0.0.1 only tests Tally running on the same machine. To test Tally on another machine, use that machine's 192.168.x.x address. Note that opening the address in a browser only proves the port is reachable — it does not prove the antivirus is allowing BSRunner's service through.

4Antivirus blocking features or updates▾

BSRunner runs a small web server (Apache) as a Windows service. A Windows service runs in the background under the system account, and some antivirus programs are stricter with background services than with programs you open yourself. This can block parts of BSRunner even after a clean install. Below is each problem and its fix.

Tally import or the app fails — error 10013

The antivirus firewall is blocking the Apache service from opening connections, including the one to Tally.

Fix — allow the Apache program

  1. Program to allow: C:\Bsrunner\apache\bin\httpd.exe.
  2. K7: open K7 → Settings → Firewall → Application Control → add httpd.exe → set to Allow. If a Block rule for it already exists, change it to Allow.
  3. Kaspersky: Settings → Protection → Firewall → Configure application rules → find the Apache program (httpd.exe) → set it to Trusted / Allow.
  4. Restart the Apache service: press Win+R, type services.msc, find the Apache service, right-click → Restart.

Quick check: turn the antivirus firewall off for a moment and test again. If it works, the firewall was the cause — turn it back on and add the Allow rule above.

Updates or licence activation fail — certificate error (error 60)

If checking for updates or activating the licence fails with a certificate error, the antivirus is scanning secure (HTTPS) connections and breaking the check. Kaspersky does this by default.

Fix — trust our website

  1. In the antivirus, open Web protection / Network settings / Encrypted connection scanning.
  2. Add auditwave.in to the trusted or excluded addresses. If there is no per-site option, turn off "scan encrypted connections".
  3. Restart the Apache service and try again.

Excel / PDF export fails, or saving fails

BSRunner keeps all its data as JSON files (there is no separate database) and writes exports into C:\Bsrunner\bsrunner-data. Antivirus "ransomware protection" or Windows "Controlled Folder Access" can stop a background service writing there.

Fix — trust the folder

  1. Add C:\Program Files\BSRunnerSetup, C:\Bsrunner and its bsrunner-data folder to the antivirus exclusions (both the real-time scan list and the ransomware / folder-protection list).
  2. If you use Windows ransomware protection: Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Ransomware protection → Allow an app through Controlled folder access → add the Apache program (C:\Bsrunner\apache\bin\httpd.exe).

One-time setup to avoid all of the above

Do this once, right after install:

  1. Allow the program C:\Bsrunner\apache\bin\httpd.exe in the antivirus firewall.
  2. Exclude the folders C:\Program Files\BSRunnerSetup, C:\Bsrunner and C:\Bsrunner\bsrunner-data from real-time and ransomware protection.
  3. Add auditwave.in to the list of sites excluded from HTTPS scanning.

On an office network, your antivirus admin can push these settings to all PCs at once from the central console.

5App won't open over the LAN▾

BSRunner runs on one PC (the server). Other PCs in the office open it in a browser using the server's address, for example http://192.168.1.10/bsrunner/. If it opens on the server PC but not on other PCs, it is a network or firewall issue, not a BSRunner fault. Work through these in order.

Step 1 — Confirm it works on the server PC first

  1. On the server PC, open http://localhost/bsrunner/.
  2. If that does not open, fix the server first — see the note at the end of this section.

Step 2 — Find the server PC's address

  1. On the server PC, press Win+R, type cmd, press Enter.
  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
  3. Note the IPv4 Address (for example 192.168.1.10).
  4. On another PC, open http://192.168.1.10/bsrunner/ (use your actual number).

Step 3 — Allow BSRunner through the server's firewall

Remember Apache runs as a Windows service, so it needs its own firewall permission.

  1. On the server PC, allow the program C:\Bsrunner\apache\bin\httpd.exe for inbound connections in the antivirus firewall (and in Windows Firewall).
  2. Windows Firewall: Control Panel → Windows Defender Firewall → Allow an app… → add httpd.exe and tick Private.
  3. If BSRunner uses a port other than 80, also allow that port for inbound TCP.

Step 4 — Check the network itself

  1. Same network: both PCs must be on the same office network. Confirm the first three number groups of their IPv4 addresses match (for example both start 192.168.1.).
  2. Use a wired LAN if possible. Many Wi-Fi routers turn on "client isolation", which stops one Wi-Fi device from reaching another even though the internet works. If a Wi-Fi PC cannot connect, try a network cable, or ask your network person to turn off client isolation.
  3. Quick reachability test: on the other PC, open cmd and type ping 192.168.1.10 (use the server's number). If the ping fails, it is a network problem to solve first — not BSRunner.

If the app won't open on the server PC itself: check the Apache service is running (services.msc → Apache → Running). If it is stopped and won't start, another program may be using the same port (for example Skype or IIS on port 80), or the antivirus removed a file during install (see section 2).
